Manta Information

Featuring a lightweight aluminum alloy frame

Manta was built to in 2016 using electronics and motors salvaged from Admare. Manta marked a departure from the thermoplastic frames used in Admare and Orcus, and uses a frame made of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, the same alloy from which scuba tanks are made. The second structural innovation was the use of a cast acrylic cap for the pressure case enclosing the vehicle's electronics. This cap--which is clearer than glass--allows for forward-facing camera placement and allowed the team to reduce the total number of pressure cases to one.
